Remember when Real Madrid and Barcelona met in Miami for a meaningless pre-season El Clásico? Now these two teams meet again for a real trophy in a true game of football.
Madrid will be without Luka Modric —suspended— but Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to make his return to the team’s starting lineup after coming off the bench against Manchester United. Mateo Kovacic will be looking forward to replacing his countryman but Zidane could also choose Isco if he wants to start the BBC again.
On the other hand, Barcelona will obviously be without Neymar and Gerard Deulofeu looks like the man who will fill the Brazilian star’s shoes at least until either Dembele or Coutinho sign for Barça. Deulofeu is a streaky player and even though he is a clear downgrade compared to Neymar, right-back Dani Carvajal will need to be careful with him if Madrid want to conquer the trophy.
Away goals are extremely valuable here as the second leg of this Spanish Supercup will be played at the Bernabéu next Wednesday, so Madrid should come out firing on all cylinders in order to have the edge come the return leg.
Preseason is finally over, and real football returns. For Barcelona and Real Madrid, the two biggest teams and rivals in the world, a title is on the line as the two clubs play two matches in four days for the Spanish Super Cup.
Madrid won La Liga and Barça conquered the Spanish Cup last season, and while Los Blancos also won the UEFA Champions League and come into this match as favorites, it would be silly to take Barça for granted.
The Blaugrana did lose Neymar, but they now have a very promising manager in Ernesto Valverde and still have Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez in the team. Those two superstars can still win games without their former partner, and even though the ‘MSN’ trio is now part of history, Messi and Suárez are still incredible players and will give Madrid a run for their money.
These two teams already met this season in the Miami Clásico, with Barça coming out on top with a very entertaining 3-2 victory. That was only a friendly, however, so expect a very intense affair with both teams giving their all for the win.
This is El Clásico, so please don’t miss it. The first leg of the Supercopa de España is on Sunday at Camp Nou, and this promises to be a great match. Watch it.
